This is the Sunday Series, a peek of things in the art music world.

Music has a close bound with architecture for quite some time. Concert halls and opera houses are also the ones which effects the music and also effected by music. These structures are devoted to music, from within them we witness the grow of musical arts.

This series presents the beauty of the structure, in which music creativity flows abundantly.

1995-antonio-stradivari-violinPeople tried to reproduce the quality of a Stradivarius violin. Some luthiers have copied the shape of the violins, some used the same wood from the Alps to get the same quality wood for the stringed instruments. Some researchers even try to formulate the very varnish applied by Antonio Stradivari in the 1700 to his instruments. Some tried to find out what materials did Stradivari use for gluing the violin pieces together.

But no one has ever achieved the Stradivarius quality up to this very day. Some even said that the Cremona violin maker was just extremely lucky.

Now researchers shed light to find out the mystery of these beautiful instruments, some worth more than US$ 3,5 million. Scientists now turn to a certain fungus grown in the wood piece so that the wood has similar structural pores for the sound to vibrate in. Click here for more info on the fungus, click here for Antonio Stradivari.

(more…)

Dear friends, today is the day… This is the first anniversary of this A Musical Promenade blog. It’s been a year since I began writing in this media, maybe it’s also my first time to write for public. And up to this day, this blog is one of those few blogs that publish classical music articles in Indonesia. That is 21st Nov 2007.

A Musical Promenade has changed my life. It gives me a lot of opportunity to write and even making friends in the net, especially those in the classical music business. Because of it, I spent time more in the net to find new and interesting things to write about. I spent hours and hours to monitor this blog which is a fun thing to do. It changed my life, really.

Writing, for me, is a way to be connected with a subject you love. This blog has been helping me to be connected with music that I love. And I personally believe that writing and publishing it is a way for you to get yourself heard, a chance to make the world a better place. And it has been a medium for me to learn new things, discussing topics that I never heard of.

I thank you, dear readers, for your support to this blog by coming once and a while or even regularly while dropping some comments. I also thank my friends who supported this blogging activities, teachers and, of course, my family.

I hope I can keep this music blogging activity alive, since writing is not a easy task either. So wish me luck! Feel free to drop some comments here and there… I appreciate them a lot, though I sometimes couldn’t reply each and every comments.

So much to be written, so little time and wisdom…. A long journey ahead!

This is the statistics of A Musical Promenade blog up to this day.

(more…)
