Di bulan Januari, sebagai salah satu tulisan-tulisan pertama saya pernah menuliskan mengenai tanggung jawab seorang konduktor (lihat sini). Tapi mari kita menyoroti, ketika terjadi masalah, kini apa tanggung jawab konduktor?

Konduktor adalah seorang manajer. Mari kita melihat kasus peran konduktor dalam masalah dari sudut analogi seorang manajer yang juga berada dalam kubangan yang sama.

Suntory Hall is the first hall in Japan especially made for musical activities. Constructed in 1970s and finished in 1996, this hall is a national pride of Japan. It is located in Akasaka, Tokyo. (more…)

Adalagi hal baru soal musik yang berkumandang di balik jeruji besi lembaga pemasyarakatan. Karya-karya orkes Haydn, Mozart berkumandang di dari dalam tembok tebal penjara. Dan siapa yang memainkan karya orkes ini? Para narapidana.

Tidak tertinggal pula paduan suara. Sebagai ensemble yang cukup murah karena tidak terlalu mengeruk modal untuk alat musik, paduan suara pun dipraktekkan dan diajarkan di dalam lembaga pemasyarakatan di Los Teques ini.

Dan apabila ada yang bertanya, negara mana yang mendukung program seperti ini? Lagi-lagi jawabannya adalah Venezuela, sebuah negara yang tergila-gila sekaligus paling berkomitmen dalam gebrakan seperti ini (more…)

Lagi dengan karya Mendelssohn, konduktor kelahiran Indonesia Jahja Ling kembali ke Cathedral of Messiah Kamis lalu (18/09) di Kemayoran untuk memimpin Symphony no.2, Op.52 “Lobgesang” dari Felix Mendelssohn, sebuah simfoni yang digubah untuk orkestra dan paduan suara, suatu konsep yang mirip dengan Symphony no.9 dari Beethoven.

Ditulis pada tahun 1840, Mendelssohn menyusun karya ini dengan musik simfonik di 3 bagian pertama dan 9 bagian untuk vokal diiringi orkes, baik berupa paduan suara maupun solois. Kembali tampil di bawah pimpinan Jahja Ling adalah Capella Amadeus Orchestra dan Paduan Suara Gabungan, dari keduanya bertotal sekitar 200 orang. (more…)

Does fashion in the world of classical music stage amazes you? I don’t think so. Because well most of them wear the same attire in every concert. Well for the male musicians, tuxedo with bow ties and female with a dark, possibly black, night gown.

Maybe conductors and soloists are more attractive when it comes to fashion, but it’s far in the West. How about Indonesian musicians? (more…)
